STEP 1: How to Locate the Serratus Posterior Inferior Trigger Point #One
There are three Serratus muscles, one in the front (the Serratus Anterior) and two in the back (the Serratus Posterior Superior and Serratus Posterior Inferior). Here, we’ll be talking about the Serratus Posterior Inferior. This muscle arises from the last two thoracic vertebrae and the first two lumbar vertebrae. Its fibres move outward and up to latch onto the last four ribs. This muscle helps in moving the ribs down and outward, thereby aiding in respiration.
STEP 2: How to Self-Release the Serratus Posterior Inferior Trigger Point # One
Massaging the Serratus Posterior Inferior requires the use of two balls. As the location video shows, this muscle arises from the lower back—from the last two thoracic and first two lumbar vertebrae, level with the belly button. Place the balls on either side of your back and, leaning over them, hold for about 30 seconds to a minute and release.
STEP 3: How to Stretch the Serratus Posterior InferiorTrigger Point # One
You will need a yoga ball to stretch the Serratus Posterior Inferior. Kneel with the yoga ball in front of you. Place your hands on the ball and push it away while staying situated in the same place. Sink into the stretch as much as you can. Hold for 30 seconds to a minute and release. This stretch is great for the Serratus Posterior Inferior and many other muscles in the back and shoulder complex.
