STEP 1: How to Locate the Flexo Carpi Ulnaris Trigger Point #One
The Flexor Carpi Ulnaris, as the name suggests, is a flexor of the wrist located on the ulnar (little finger) side. It originates from the Medial Epicondyle, which is a bony protuberance present towards the inside towards your body in your elbow region. The ulnar bone is easily felt by palpating over the pinky side of the forearm. It then gets attached to the bones of the wrist, helping in the flexion of the wrist joint. Place a hand over the forearm, over the ulna, near the origin of the muscle, and flex your wrist. You will feel the muscle tense beneath your fingers. That is the Flexor Carpi Ulnaris. This muscle’s trigger point usually forms midway between the elbow and the wrist.
STEP 2: How to Self-Release the Flexo Carpi Ulnaris Trigger Point # One
To self-release the Flexor Carpi Ulnaris, you will need a ball and a table top. First, locate the trigger point on the forearm. Next, place the ball over the sensitive area so the ball is between your arm and the table. Roll it around until you find the right spot. Bend the elbow and allow your wrist to drop. Should you desire more pressure, hold your other hand over the forearm. If you’re doing it correctly, you’ll feel sensation radiating towards the ulnar side of the wrist. Hold for about 30 seconds and release.
STEP 3: How to Stretch the Flexo Carpi UlnarisTrigger Point # One
The Flexo Carpi Ulnaris is a forearm flexor, and helps in flexion. In consideration of its role, stretching the muscle means creating an opposing movement. This stretch can be used for the other flexor muscles as well. Hold your arm out in front of your body, palm facing down. Hold your palm with the other hand and pull so your palm faces out and away from your body. If you bring your fingers back, the stretch will be more pronounced. Hold for about 30 seconds and release.
