STEP 1: How to Locate the Flexor Digitorum Profundus Trigger Point #One

The Flexor Digitorum Profundus is a deep flexor of the digits of the hand. It arises from the ulna, which is a bone on the pinky side of your forearm, and is attached to the bones of the fingers (excluding the thumb). Place a light hand over the inside of the forearm and flex your fingers. You will feel a muscle tense beneath. That is the Flexor Digitorum Profundus. The trigger point for the muscle generally develops over the side of the forearm, closer to the elbow than to the wrist, approximately 1/3 of the forearm’s length from the elbow.

STEP 2: How to Self-Release the Flexor Digitorum Profundus Trigger Point # One

To self-release the Flexor Digitorum Profundus, you will need a ball and a table top. First, locate the trigger point on the forearm. Next, place the ball over the sensitive area so the ball is between your arm and the table. Roll it around until you find the right spot. You may apply a little more pressure by holding your other hand over the forearm. Hold for about 30 seconds and release.

STEP 3: How to Stretch the Flexor Digitorum ProfundusTrigger Point # One

The Flexor Digitorum Profundus is a forearm flexor, and helps in flexion. In consideration of its role, stretching the muscle means creating an opposing movement. This stretch can be used for the other flexor muscles as well. Hold your arm out in front of your body with palm facing down. Hold your palm with the other hand and pull so your palm faces out and away from your body. If you bring your fingers back, the stretch will be more pronounced. Hold for about 30 seconds and release.
